News 2021
    4th September

Hollybrooke JupiterWe enjoyed two busy days at the Breed Show. It was lovely to catch up with so many people we have not see for two years and to see so many ponies we had only heard about.
On Saturday we took our two year old colt Hollybrooke Jupiter (photo left). He was third in the two and three year old stud colt class beaten by two three year olds. That extra year makes such a difference at this age but there were a lot of very complimentary comments about him which promises much for the future.
On Monday we took both Hollybrooke Grace and Hollybrooke Melitta. Grace was not the judges cup of tea this time and was fifth. She has started to change her coat which is often a problem at the Breed Show and didn't quite make the picture she did earlier on in the season. Melitta was a star as always. She won the small yeld mare class. It is a class she has competed in five times and has won on every occasion. The only other time she has competed as an adult at the Breed Show she won the novice brood mare instead. On Monday she followed her class win by being reserve mare champion. Instead of a show picture the photo below shows her being ridden our granddaughter a few days before the show. Having only been broken last Autumn age eleven, it is a role she has taken to brilliantly.

Although showing opportunities are still much reduced we have had a couple of outings. Hollybrooke Melitta went to the NPS Championships and won a large and very competitive New Forest mare or gelding class. Our second two year old colt Hollybrooke Destiny also went to a local show. It was his first ever outing, he was rather excited seeing so many girls but overall behaved really well and took everything including having a bath and loading in the trailer on his own, completely in his stride. He will be gelded in the Autumn and will be leaving us for a new home where he will have a career as a sports pony.

Our final foal for 2021 has arrived safely. The stud's very special foundation mare, Coffee Crunch now aged twenty four produced a really super colt foal on the 24th July. She ran with our stallion Skywalker for all of last spring and summer and she obviously decided on a summer baby. She has been an amazing mare producing so many wonderful ponies including Hollybrooke Melitta and Hollybrooke Tinker. She slipped a set of twins two years ago and we were unsure whether to try covering her again. However, she looked so super we thought we would have one last try and we are both thrilled and relieved at his safe arrival. We are hopeful that he will become dark liver chestnut like Crunch when he loses his baby coat.

The shows are now starting to return. We were keen to give our two year old colt Hollybrooke Hollybrooke JupiterJupiter (pictured left) some experiences away from home as he is still quite nervous. He went to the Breamore show where he had to go in the class with the mature stallions. He was the only young colt entered and came a very creditable third. He coped better with the experience that we had expected. He then went to the NFPEC Show and was placed 2nd in the two and three year old class. He was much more settled on the second occasion but will be so much better when he is really relaxed and can properly show off his amazing movement. Hollybrooke Grace won the four years and over mare class at the same show. It was probably the strongest and largest class she has ever competed in so we were thrilled.
Our foals are growing rapidly and turning into some lovely characters. We are still waiting for the fourth one to arrive and Coffee Crunch seems in no hurry at all. She ran with Skywalker all summer so they obviously decided on a later summer baby!! The latest foal pictures have been added to the Foals 2021 page.

We attended our first show since September 2019 this weekend. We took Hollybrooke Grace and her seven week old foal Hollybrooke Favour to the Bath an West Equine Show. We had an amazing day with Grace who swept the board winning the mare class, the New Forest Championship and was then reserve in the NPS Silver medal M&M in hand championship. Quite a day! We were also thrilled with the foal who took the whole thing in her stride. She was not in the least concerned by the many things she had never seen before, enjoyed the fuss and attention she received from everyone she met and waited patiently while Grace did her shows.
Another very satisfying fact was that our foundation mare Coffee Crunch who is Grace's Grandmother, was also the Grandmother of the mare place second in the mare class and the winner of the 2 and three year old class. Both ponies are by our stallion Hollybrooke Tinker.

This month's news begins on a sad note. Hollybrooke Maxwell who has flown the flag so brilliantly for the Hollybrooke stud in eventing has had to be put to sleep. He had been produced so beautifully by Janine Paterson for nine years and we are hugely proud of their achievements together. Below is a collage of some of the many Super photos we have of him.

We took two, two year old colts to the stallion inspection. Hollybrooke Destiny and Hollybrooke Jupiter. Both colts have wintered out and have never been rugged but we were pleased with how they looked. They are not the finished article yet which is how we like them to be as two year olds. Both colts passed their inspection (they still have to be vetted and have their DNA checked). Hollybrooke Jupiter was the highest scoring colt of those forward, so will shortly be receiving a rosette for top colt.

At the end of March we welcomed three new foals in just over a week and all of them fillies. Hollybrooke Ruby and Hollybrooke Grace both had foals by Skywalker. Hollybrooke Debbie had her tenth foal but only her second ever filly. The foal by Hollybrooke Tinker is a full sister to the very successful stallion Hollybrooke Duke.

The three foals at just a couple of days old enjoying playtime.

The ponies have wintered well despite the challenging weather we have experienced. We have four mares due to foal in March including Hollybrooke Debbie (photo left) in foal to Hollybrooke Tinker and Hollybrooke Grace (photo right) in foal to Skywalker
We have recently weaned Hollybrooke Skylight our filly foal from last year. She has been an absolute pleasure to work with and has willingly done everything asked of her.
We sold three ponies at the end of 2020. Two colt foals who are settling well into their new life and our black three year old filly Hollybrooke Treasure. Treasure is already being broken in by her young owner proving to be easy and trainable. The two photos below are of Hollybrooke Treasure and Hollybrooke Topaz enjoying life in their new homes. Both ponies are out of the same mare Hollybrooke Sparkle.
